About Me
Hello, I’m Tessa. I’m a pregnancy, birth and postpartum doula from the Mornington Peninsula, Australia. I completed my training with Birth for Humankind in 2022, a wonderful organisation that provides doula support to vulnerable women in Melbourne. I continue to be one of their volunteer doulas today.
I am a mother to three kiddos, aged 8, 6 and 4, and wife of a Tassie guy. I am also currently working part time in my other profession as an orthotist.
I am a lover of books, baked goods, rummaging for vintage treasures in op shops and enjoying a strong cup of Earl Grey. I am also most definitely a birth nerd, and am thrilled to have found a profession that allows me to talk about pregnancy and birth all day without being weird!
I decided to become a doula after growing and birthing my own children. My three births were all quite different; An emergency caesarean, a VBAC and a semi-planned caesarean. I thought I was well-prepared for each of them and they were all ultimately positive experiences. But there were moments when they weren’t, moments when I felt scared or out of control.
“We have to do a C-section”
“You haven’t progressed, they want to start syntocinon”
“I need to check if you’re allowed to have your baby with you in recovery”
Moments when it would have made such a difference to myself and my husband to have someone in our corner, a guide when things got tricky, an advocate who knew our wishes, a friendly face among the unfamiliar.
That’s what I hope to be now.
As a doula I want those giving birth to feel seen, feel heard, feel respected and feel safe. I want you to feel calm and excited about your birth. I want you to have all the evidence-based information you need. I want birthing partners to feel confident. I want to support you to experience your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period your way.
I could chat for ages about this so if you’d like to learn more, please feel free to get in touch and we can grab a cuppa!
